A live demonstration of DVB-T2 and a DRM presentation was held by Thomson Broadcast and B&I at the Egoli Conference Centre in Edenvale on January 20th and 21st.. The presentation was very well attended by delegates from South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and although the main topic was DVB-T2 which just recently has been announced as South Africas and SADC member states' broadcast standard, most of the questions by the audience were about DRM. It was also pointed out that DRM can be used for signal distribution to rural areas where it can be rebroadcasted by very low power FM transmitters, even if DRM receivers are still at a high price.
