AAC - Advanced Audio Codec, Part of the MPEG-4 audio compression suite

bps - bits per second

CELP - Code-book Excited Linear Predicion, an efficient audio compression method for speech

COFDM - Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex

DAB - Digital Audio Broadcasting, a digital radio broadcasting standard operating in VHF Band III and the L-Band

DMB - Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, a DAB-based digital standard for digital radio and multimedia broadcasting

DRM - Digital Radio Mondiale

DSP - Digital Signal Processing

DVB - Digital Video Broadcasting

ETSI - European Telecommunication Standards Institute

FAC - Fast Access Channel, the most robust part of the transmission, submitting basic channel information to the receiver

FM - Frequency Modulation. The FM-Band for Radio Broadcasting in ITU-Region II (including Africa), sometimes also referred to as VHF Band II, is defined from 87.5 to 108.0MHz, with a channel bandwidth of 100kHz

ITU - International Telecommunication UnionMPEG - Motion Picture Experts Group

MSC - Main Service Channel

PLC - Power Line Communication, a data transmission method using powerline cables to and/or inside households for carrying data, e.g. for internet services. PLC is using radio broadcastingt frequencies on unshielded cables and disturbs radio broadcasting reception significantly and has therefore been banned by some countries' regulatory authorities

QAM - Quadrature Amplitude Modulation

QPSK - Quadrature Phase Shift Keying

RDS - Radio Data System, a data service available for FM broadcasting to add additional digital information to the channel, such as channel ID, alternate frequencies, station name and traffice information

SBR - Side Band Replication

SDC - Service Description Channel

SFN - Single Frequency Network

Simulcast - Transmitting analogue and digital signals sharing one frequency

UHF - Ultra High Frequency. In ITU-Region II the UHF-Bands 4 and 5 (400-800MHz) are used for television broadcasting

VHF - Very High Frequency. In ITU-Region II VHF broadcasting takes place in VHF Band I (47-68 MHz, for television, in most countries not any more used), Band II (FM radio) and Band III (174-254MHz)
